Jessica Chastain felt “a little embarrassed” about tripping at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.
The Oscar-winning actress tripped over her dress as she took the stage to collect her trophy for Best Actress in a Limited Series for George & Tammy.
Addressing People after her victory, she admitted to being “a bit embarrassed” by her near fall, but was glad Courtney B. Vance and Paul Mescal were there to help her up the few steps in her fuchsia Zuhair dress Murad. “I tripped on the stairs, but I had two very handsome men helping me up, so it wasn’t that bad,” she joked.
She also explained to EntertainmentTonight that she had become “trapped” in her dress, and indicated that if she spoke quickly during her acceptance speech, her tripping had cost her a few precious seconds of her allotted time. “I walk up to the stage and realize I’m going to be in trouble because my whole body is shaking and I’m like, ‘OK, I’m going to need help getting up the stairs,’ then I started to stumble, she told Access Hollywood. But once on the podium, I saw the rapid countdown of the time I had left and I had to speak quickly and I feel like I forgot some people…”
Jessica Chastain gave a motivational speech aimed at aspiring actors, based on words she received from the late Philip Seymour Hoffman early in his career.
