The water of the Mediterranean shows a significant rise in temperature, which favors the early appearance of jellyfish. They have already made their first victims, especially on the beaches of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Jellyfish, a vacationer’s nightmare. This year on the Côte d’Azur, they are there. Like Sunday July 3 in Villeneuve-Loubet (Alpes-Maritimes), where William was able to observe some. “When I went way over there to the buoy, I saw a big one. After when I came back, I saw one very close to the shore”, he says. Faced with this threat, holidaymakers even have their little tricks. “It’s black jellyfish, we can see them quite well. As soon as we see them, we get out of the water”says the tourist.

“It’s part of the sea, they are part of nature, so I don’t mind if there are any, I don’t go in the water”, relativizes a vacationer. It is the long filaments of this gelatinous animal that have a stinging effect. With the summer heat, their appearances are more frequent, as during the Monte-Cristo challenge in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) last week, where dozens of runners were bitten. The presence of jellyfish on a beach is normally indicated by a purple flag.
