The American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in New York in August 2019 before being brought to justice for the sexual exploitation of minors, committed suicide following a succession of “negligence” prison staff, concluded a report from the US Department of Justice on Tuesday, June 27. In the report, the Department’s Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, points to “numerous and serious errors of the staff of the federal penitentiary of New York” where Jeffrey Epstein was detained, found hanged in his cell with a sheet tight around his neck on August 10, 2019 at dawn.
Michael Horowitz notably accuses two guards of the prison administration of “misconduct and negligence”. He points out that Jeffrey Epstein, who was in principle “under control for suicide risk” since the end of July 2019, had been placed “only” And “unsupervised” in a cell on August 9, 2019 and that he had been provided with that evening “excessive amount of bed sheets”.
Many conspiracy theories
The Epstein affair, named after this Wall Street financier accused of sex crimes and died at the age of 66, has embarrassed some of the political and economic elites for years. In New York, his ex-mistress and collaborator Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced in June 2022 to 20 years in prison. British Prince Andrew reached a financial agreement in March of the same year with one of his rape accusers.
The former French modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, charged with rape of minors, was found dead hanged in prison in Paris in February 2022. Finally, in addition to payments from the banks JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank to close their files on their relations with Jeffrey Epstein, the names of former presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton and Microsoft founder Bill Gates have been cited in the press as having known this man, already convicted in 2008 of forcing young girls into prostitution in Florida.
The influence of Jeffrey Epstein’s network in the United States and Europe fueled many conspiracy theories after his death about an assassination that was disguised as suicide. But New York forensic medicine and the federal police had already concluded that the man had killed himself.
