Quebecers who wish to pay a final tribute to singer-songwriter Jean-Pierre Ferland, who died a little over a month ago, will have the opportunity to do so on Friday in Montreal.
The singer will be on display at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The population will then be able to bid farewell to this great Quebecer and gather in front of his urn, we can read on the Place des Arts website. No tickets or reservations are necessary.
Prime Minister François Legault will notably be present and he must make a statement to the media upon his arrival, late in the morning. Ministers Mathieu Lacombe and Caroline Proulx must also go there.
The ardent chapel will be the first of two days of homage to the “Little King”. On Saturday, her national funeral will take place at Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral, still in Montreal.
According to the government, a “limited” number of places will be reserved for the public inside the cathedral, but the ceremony will also be broadcast on a giant screen at Place du Canada.
Those attending the funeral are invited to wear a yellow accessory, in homage to the album YELLOW by Jean-Pierre Ferland, on which we find classics like The little king And When we love we are always twenty years old.
Also on Saturday, the Quebec flag will be flown at half-mast on the main tower of the Parliament Building, at the National Assembly, from dawn to dusk.
Jean-Pierre Ferland died on April 27 at the age of 89 of natural causes. He had been hospitalized since February 14 at CHSLD Desy, in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon, in Lanaudière.
