Jean-Pierre Dick: “Children must be taught tenacity and humility”

The Niçois navigator Jean-Pierre Dick participates in the training of young people to the nautical base of Nice as he prepares for the next Rum Route on his sailboat JP54 “Our Mediterranean, City of Nice”.

The sailor regularly follows the young apprentices of the optimist competitions to the port of Nice. The opportunity for exchanges.

The sea is an escape and pushes us to humility

“We are very lucky to be able to spend time on our passion when we see everything that is happening in Ukraine. The sea is an escape somewhere, an extraordinary universe I come to follow the training sessions for the championships from time to time. I watch the children grow. _The messages I try to convey to them: tenacity and humility_. The sea is always stronger than us, even if we win races, it calms us down. And the value of being tenacious is important in this world in which there are so many demands. Being tenacious about goals is my DNA: it’s important for children to stay on course.”

The children here have sweet dreams, far from the hustle and bustle of the world. They repeat “When I grow up, I dream of going around the world on a sailboat, traveling the oceans, doing the Vendée Globe, being a professional skipper…gliding on the water is a great feeling, seeing dolphins in the early morning off Antibes, it’s a dream”.

Jean-Pierre Dick, 56, veterinarian and HEC graduate, twice won the Barcelona World race : double-handed, non-stop round-the-world race, He is a four-time winner of the Transat Jacques Vabre and played four Vendee Globe. He leaves in this new adventure of the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe 2022 on his sailboat JP54 “Notre Méditerranée-Ville de Nice”. Departure is scheduled for November 6, 2022.
