Jean-Marie Le Pen, 94, was hospitalized in the Paris region on Saturday April 15 after suffering from a heart attack, learned France Inter from a close source, confirming information from the weekly Point. His wife, Jany Le Pen, went to his bedside during the day at the hospital.

“Jean-Marie Le Pen was hospitalized in a public establishment in the Paris region. His family and loved ones are worried but calm”told AFP his adviser Lorrain de Saint Affrique, reporting that he is “aware” and surrounded.

Hospitalized several times in recent years

The former far-right leader was hospitalized in February 2022 following a “mild form of stroke”. At the end of September 2018, he had been hospitalized for more than a week due to “persistent fever”. Then in June of the same year, Jean-Marie Le Pen had been hospitalized for ten days for a “dangerous pulmonary complication” of bacterial origin, after a first hospitalization for a flu contracted at the beginning of April.

A historical figure of the far right, the former president of the National Front was expelled from the party in 2015, his daughter Marine Le Pen having succeeded him years earlier, in 2011, as president of this party which would then become the National rally. Jean-Marie Le Pen remained honorary president until 2018, before leaving politics for good in 2019, after 34 years in the European Parliament and 63 years after his first election as a deputy.
