Jean-Marc Vallée died of natural causes

Director Jean-Marc Vallée died of natural causes on December 25, the coroner’s final report confirmed.

More specifically, he succumbed to a fatal cardiac arrhythmia secondary to severe coronary atherosclerosis.

“This is a natural death”, is it possible to read in the four-page report of coroner Donald Nicole.

An autopsy was performed on December 28 at the University Institute of Cardiology and Pneumology of Quebec.

“No other pre-existing anatomical lesions or traumatic lesions were observed. In addition, no evidence of COVID-19 infection has been detected.

No sign of violence, theft or break-in had been observed at the scene of the filmmaker’s death, according to the police investigation report.

It was a friend who found the 58-year-old director dead in his residence in Berthier-sur-Mer, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, the day after his death.

Paramedics went to the scene a few minutes later and found that Mr. Vallée no longer had vital signs. No resuscitation maneuver was then possible.

“We still receive many testimonials of friendship, esteem and respect for our father and his work from all over the world, mention his sons, Alex and Émile Vallée. We thank you for it and sincerely hope that his creativity will continue to inspire and guide the members of this industry which has so fascinated him,” his family said in a press release on Wednesday.

The details of the events planned to commemorate the memory of the famous director will soon be announced by the family, it was also specified.

The announcement of the death of the director of the films CRAZY and Dallas Buyers Club had particularly shocked Quebecers, but also the international artistic community.

The tributes had then quickly succeeded for the filmmaker who had received numerous awards during his career, including an Emmy for the series Big Little Lies in 2017.
