Jean-Marc Reiser’s trial is open

A long-awaited trial opens Monday, June 27 afternoon before the Court of Assizes of Bas-Rhin. This trial is that of Jean-Marc Reiser, the alleged murderer of Sophie Le Tan in 2018. The young Strasbourg student had disappeared on her 20th birthday. Four years after the events, there are still many unanswered questions for the victim’s family.

Indeed, the main suspect, Jean-Marc Reiser, has changed a lot. The 61-year-old man, who has spent almost a third of his life in prison, initially denied then admitted to having hit the young woman and then cutting up her body to dispose of it in a forest. It is now a question of knowing if the blows caused the death involuntarily or if the suspect set a trap for the victim before committing an assassination. The verdict will be announced Tuesday, July 5.
