Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants to “be replaced” in view of the next presidential election

No room for doubt. “I wish to be replaced” in view of the next presidential election, said thehe leader of La France insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, in an interview with the Reporterre site published on Tuesday, September 6. He assures not to be “candidate for permanent candidacy”.

To the journalist’s question about a possible candidacy for the next presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon answers: “Yes, that’s it, in 2027, and why not in 2056. You know, you, where you will be tomorrow morning? We are all mortal, dear friend, and from a certain age, the probability increases”, he adds. “I’ve done it three times already, because necessity dictated”insists the former candidate, who “does not aspire to constantly renew the same role”.

The politician claims, however, that he wants “to end [son] intellectual work”. “And in the future, I have a task: I have formulated for the first time an overall theory that allows us the synthesis between political ecology, the heritage of historical socialism, republicanism, and that s ‘calls the theory of the era of the people and the citizen revolution’specifies the former deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône.

Regarding his succession within La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon warns: “The first who starts a civil war [au sein du mouvement], he will deal with me.”There are always good reasons to start wars… But here is my advice: make yourself loved. The one who will be most loved by many, you will see that it will seem natural to you to say: ‘go, go!'” he explains.

“So, with regard to the continuation of the candidatures for the presidential election, fear rather the overflow than the too empty. So it will be done”adds the one who finished third in the presidential election (22%) in the spring, before uniting a large part of the left behind LFI in the legislative elections in the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes).
