The leader of La France insoumise Jean-Luc Mélenchon plans to organize meetings in working-class neighborhoods and in cities as part of the campaign for the European elections, according to information from franceinfo on Monday April 15. These meetings in popular neighborhoods of Toulouse, Bordeaux, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Marseille, the form of which is still being considered by the team of the former candidate for the presidential election, will be held between now and the date of the election on June 9. A meeting in the northern districts of Marseille is notably in preparation. It will take place around the end of May in a sensitive city, the name of which remains secret for the moment.

In Marseille, Jean-Luc Mélenchon will be accompanied by two Rebels, including Rima Hassan, a Franco-Palestinian jurist. Seventh on the rebellious list in the European elections, she embodies the party’s Palestinian fight. She is also accused of having made ambiguous remarks about Hamas.

Find votes where residents vote the least

These meetings in working-class neighborhoods throughout France represent “a way of going where people live, so that the Republic regains its rights”, explains an Insoumise. LFI, moreover, has made no secret, for several years, of going to campaign in these neighborhoods where the party has the best score and where the inhabitants vote the least. The Insoumis believe that it is this reservoir of votes that they lacked to reach the second round in 2022. This is why the Insoumis are taking advantage of the European elections to mobilize, as we saw with their campaign. “the rich vote, what about you?” Jean-Luc Mélenchon himself presents this election as the first round of the presidential election, an opportunity to save money for 2027, while trying to keep face in the process. The objective is to achieve a correct score, if possible not too far behind the first on the left, the socialist Raphaël Glucksmann.
