Jean-Luc Mélenchon and La France insoumise have filed a new complaint, this time with civil action, against Youtuber Papacito for provocation to murder or attack on integrity, franceinfo learned on Tuesday September 13 from his lawyer Me Jade Dousselin, confirming information from Streetpress. This type of complaint allows the quasi-automatic opening of a judicial inquiry led by an independent judge.

The founder of La France insoumise had filed a first simple complaint but, after opening a preliminary investigation in June 2021, the Paris prosecutor’s office had finally dismissed it. This ranking is “incomprehensible”for Me Jade Dousselin, “a call for the murder of hundreds of people cannot go unpunished and justice must seize it and provide the necessary answers so that it never happens again”she proclaims to franceinfo.

The complaint targets a video posted by Papacito on June 6, 2021 and titled “Is leftism bulletproof?”. In this video, the YouTuber, a claimed far-right activist, dressed in paramilitary clothing, fired with firearms at a plastic mannequin representing, in his own words, a “voter of Jean-Luc Mélenchon lambda”. The video had shocked many left-wing voters, close to rebellious France or not. The spokesperson for the National Rally Sébastien Chenu had also condemned it.

Heard by the investigators, the Youtubeur had invoked humor, but, in this new complaint that franceinfo was able to consult, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s lawyers believe that “the use of an allegedly humorous tone, generalized defense of the far right and long-standing ultra-right groups, cannot prevent the characterization of the offense”.
