On the subject of the long negotiations which took place to form the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), he estimated on France 2, Friday evening, that “it was necessary to settle in thirteen days what were sources of conflict for ten years”.

The PS ended up joining the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes). “We had a rallying reflex in the face of an announced episode of aggravated social abuse”said Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Friday, May 6, on the set of “20 hours” of France 2, for his first interview the day after this moment qualified as“historical” by executives of La France insoumise, the PS or Europe Ecologie-Les Verts.

Regarding the long negotiations that took place, the leader of Nupes believes that“we had to resolve in thirteen days what had been a source of conflict for ten years”. “When we started to discuss, we realized that each other did not conform to the caricature that we had of each other”he remarked. “We had to be ready in time”, he insisted: “We are not holding a congress, we are preparing to govern the country”inviting once again the French people to elect him Prime Minister during the legislative elections.

What will Nupes concretely give to the Assembly? “Everyone has to have their own group, otherwise it won’t work”he specified. “We will each have a group and we will have an intergroup”he added. “We will have a common political parliament outside the institutional structure”he notes.

As for a new mandate as deputy, Jean-Luc Mélenchon declared that he was not going to “presumably” not be a legislative candidate himself, believing that this was not “necessary”. “Six Prime Ministers out of 24 under the Fifth Republic were not”, he argued. Taking the case of the current tenant of Matignon, Jean Castex, Jean-Luc Mélenchon believes that he has a “popular legitimacy”insofar as he was elected mayor of Prades (Pyrénées-Orientales): “He got 1,000 votes for it.” And to emphasize: “Me, I had 7.7 million a month ago, one can think that I have sufficient popular legitimacy to be able to represent the country with dignity.”
