The deputy La France insoumise of the Somme François Ruffin estimates this Wednesday, September 28 on franceinfo that Jean-Luc Mélenchon “confused two registers”to know “friendship” and the “political reaction of a leader” party, in his first reaction to the Adrien Quatennens affair. In a first tweet, the founder of LFI had welcomed the “dignity” and the “courage” of the deputy of the North, who admitted violence on his wife with whom he is now separated.
“Jean-Luc Mélenchon confused two registers. He confused a register of friendship which is a register of the private order – we do not have to withdraw our friendship from someone when he faults or when he falls – with a political reaction from a leader who is expected to uphold these principles [de défense de droits de femmes], even when it is his own who are in question. It is this dissonance that has been perceived. From the last exchanges of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the media, I see that he himself has perceived this dissonance and that he is trying to mend it”he analyzed.
Three hours after this first controversial message, Jean-Luc Mélenchon published a second tweet in which he supports the victims of domestic violence. He has since stated that “no one was perfect”. For Francois Ruffin, “it’s already a step”but he refuses to do “the psychology of Jean-Luc Mélenchon”.
The deputy of the Somme, for his part, sent a personal message to Adrien Quatennens “to say him [sa] fraternity” but would like to say: “Violence within the couple is intolerable, whatever the conflicts that exist. I bring my support to women victims in France and around the world.”
“I take note of Adrien Quatennens’ apologies, of his withdrawal and I think that, in any case, he will withdraw from public life for a while”

Adrien Quatennens announced in a press release on September 18 that he was stepping down from his role as coordinator of La France insoumise, after the revelation by the chained duck that his ex-girlfriend had filed a handrail against him. The Lille prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial inquiry. In the same press release, Adrien Quatennens admitted to having slapped his ex-girlfriend, grabbing her arm and confiscating her phone, because he did not accept that she left him. He nevertheless remains deputy of the 1st constituency of the North.
