Jean-Luc Mélenchon estimates in a blog note published Sunday June 2 that “contrary to what official propaganda says, anti-Semitism remains residual in France. It is in any case completely absent from popular gatherings”writes the founder of La France insoumise in a post devoted in particular to the interview with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu, Thursday evening on LCI. “The abusive paralyzing ray of the accusation of anti-Semitism is now without effect”he adds.

Anti-Semitic acts increased sharply in France in the first quarter of 2024, according to government figures. He lists “366 anti-Semitic facts” between January and March, up 300% compared to the first three months of 2023. In January, the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif) also reported a sharp increase in anti-Semitic acts in the country, passing from 436 in 2022 to 1,676 in 2023, with a “blast” after the attacks perpetrated on October 7 by Hamas in Israel and the reprisals which followed in the Gaza Strip.

On his blog, Jean-Luc Mélenchon also believes that the accusations of anti-Semitism against the rebellious MP David Guiraud, who described Meyer Habib as “pork” and of “pig” during an altercation in the corridors of the Assembly, are also “caricatures”.

Regarding the interview with Benyamin Netanyahu on LCI, Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounces “loss of officialdom” and a lack of condemnations of this interview granted to the person responsible for “genocide” in Gaza.
