The Jean-Lesage International Airport in Québec will spend approximately $21 million to provide a facelift to one of its two main runways as well as to improve traffic flow with its terminal.
The Trudeau government is funding about half of the project. The $10 million federal contribution comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Critical Infrastructure Program.
“While Canadians […] are more and more numerous to fly away from the airport [de Québec]it is essential that we be able to offer them quality, efficient and safe infrastructures and services,” emphasizes Stéphane Poirier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jean-Lesage Airport.
Runway 29 will be repaired. Covering an area of 1,737 meters (5,700 feet), it was built in the 1960s. Work will take place over the summers of 2023 and 2024.
