The former presidential candidate and outgoing Béarnais deputy Jean Lassalle announces on Monday May 2 in his office in Oloron-Sainte-Marie (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) that he will not stand for re-election in the next legislative elections of 12 and 19 next June, reports France Bleu Béarn Bigorre. Jean Lassalle mentions in particular health problems. He is due to undergo open heart surgery soon.
The deputy who sat within the Freedoms and Territory group had been elected to the National Assembly since June 16, 2002. First elected UDF, then MoDem, he had created his Résistons movement! during his candidacy for the 2017 presidential election. On April 10, 2022, he obtained 3.13% of the votes in the first round of voting.
In the second round, he announced his abstention in the polling station of his commune of Lourdios-Ichère. A criminal investigation for “violations of the electoral code concerning attacks on the sincerity of the ballot” was opened by the public prosecutor’s office in Pau after this staging. Following this public abstention, the Constitutional Council had decided to invalidate all the votes cast during this second round in Lourdios-Ichère.
