The pavilion which housed the iconic Hélène-de-Champlain restaurant at Parc Jean-Drapeau could accommodate two restaurants after its renovation.
The building, vacant for more than a decade, is expected to undergo $7 million worth of work by 2026.
“There will be catering space in particular. Two restoration sections: a more signature section, a section […] bistro, snack bar,” said Véronique Doucet, general director of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, in a presentation at city hall. “The analysis will be completed so that we can make plans and quotes. »
Premises will also be offered for rental, continued Mme Doucet, raising the possibility of holding public consultations or other events there.
The work should allow the Pavillon Hélène-de-Champlain to “reveal its original splendor, both inside and out,” indicates the City of Montreal. “It is an icon of Jean-Drapeau Park and of the City of Montreal. »
The restaurant, opened in 1955, permanently closed its doors in 2010. Since then, the Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau has already invested 16 million to restore it.
The building was constructed in the late 1930s.
