End clap for Jean-Claude Van Damme. From the height of his 61 years, the Belgian actor will put an end to his career. It’s in full promotion of what will be his last film, What’s my Name? of Jeremy Zag, that the star made the announcement.
A feature film in which the actor will play his own character in a semi-autobiographical story. “We’re going to bring real elements of my real life and what happened to me. I came from Belgium, I came all the way to Hollywood. I succeeded, I failed, I’m back. I walk down the street after the premiere, and boom! A car hits me because I’m drunk. When I wake up from the impact, I don’t know what my name is, and no one recognizes me.”he said in an interview with Deadline.
JCVD also revealed that it “wanted to leave center stage with a revisit of (his) careerstarting with the movie Bloodsport (released in 1988 at the cinema, editor’s note), thanks to which [il a] started to become famous”.
And what will he do once he leaves the film sets. “I bought a small boat. It’s not a big boat – it’s not for me – but I want to go around the world and relax,” said the martial arts champion. “I have worked all my life, I have lived in hotels for 30 years. All of this will be explained in the film, how I am away from my family. After that, I want to relax and enjoy life and my family , because time flies quickly.
A decision that is likely to cause a lot of pain to his fans who have followed him for the most part since the 80s. The one who appeared in the Angels 12 turned in The Last Mercenary and Haters last year. In addition to his latest film, he gave his voice to a character in the animated film, Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gruwhich will be released in July 2022.
