Jean Castex, Prime Minister between July 2020 and May 2022, is the new chairman of the board of directors of the Agence des infrastructures de France (Afit). The decree of appointment was published on Thursday August 18 at Official newspaper. He thus succeeds Christophe Béchu, who joined the government of Elisabeth Borne in July as Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. The formalization of this appointment comes the day after that of Emmanuelle Wargon as President of the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE).

Afit is a national public institution whose mission is to participate in the financing of major transport and mobility infrastructure projects, in compliance with the objectives of sustainable development and according to government guidelines.
Jean Castex was strongly anticipated in this position. His appointment had been proposed by the President of the Republic at the beginning of July, and validated by the Sustainable Development and Regional Planning Commissions of the National Assembly and the Senate at the end of July. During his hearing at the National Assembly, he then recognized the need to invest massively in rail to decarbonize transport, without forgetting the road, essential for “open up the territories”.
