Jean Bender, long-time friend of Jean-Jacques Goldman, reveals why the artist said “stop” to Enfoirés on “TPMP”

In July 2004, Jean-Jacques Goldman took the stage for the last time during the Francofolies de la Rochelle. Since then, the interpreter of Fly Me,All it takes is a signor I walk alone, no longer appeared either on stage or through a title. He still “came out” of retirement in August 2023 during an interview given to Chained Duck. But if he came out of silence, it is also because he was forced to.

Indeed, Jean-Jacques Goldman was the subject of a biography published by Ivan Jablonka. However, he would never have given his agreement for such a work to appear. Worse still, he would never have met the author according to his statements to our colleagues: “I have never met this author, neither have my friends. I am sad for all the people who are being duped into buying these books that are about me”he notably lamented.

The reason for Jean-Jacques Goldman’s departure from Restos du Coeur

Since then, it has been radio silence once again. But this Friday, September 29, the singer’s oldest friend answered the call of TPMP and Cyril Hanouna. Indeed, Jean Bender, who presents himself as the oldest friend of Jean-Jacques Goldman, revealed some anecdotes about the French’s favorite artist. The opportunity for him to reveal that the date of his retirement was recorded a long time ago, before his career even started.

“He has an incredible sense of premonition, it was before his success, we were having lunch and he said to me ‘if my album, If it will be enough for a sign, one day works, I will perform on stage , I will surround myself with other people and I will retire very early'”he explained on the set of TPMP. Despite his retirement at 53, he could have continued to work for the Restos du Coeur but fate decided otherwise.

Once again, Jean Bender gave the reasons for the departure of Jean-Jacques Goldman

. “I think it was a little worn out.”, he suggested at first. Especially since this work “took half the year”even if the oldest friend of the French’s favorite artist did not realize it. “He did everything. The cast, the costumes, the dialogues, the concerts, the recordings, rehearsing with everyone… it was a huge job”he noted before continuing: “At one point, he got a little fed up. Plus, there was a little misunderstanding on one of the last songs with the video and we vilified him a little”. A situation which would have led the artist to leave the ship.
