The federal plan, unveiled earlier this year, aims to cap emissions from the oil and gas sector to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. It also aims to reduce methane emissions by at least 75% by 2030. from oil and gas production.
Premiers of provinces and territories were meeting with leaders of national Indigenous organizations on Monday before starting their Council of the Federation meeting.
British Columbia Premier John Horgan, the host of the meeting and this year’s chair of the Council of the Federation, said health funding would be at the heart of the discussions.
The provinces still want the federal government to increase its share of spending in this area from 22% to 35%, to help improve the system.
