Jaromír Jagr surpasses Wayne Gretzky with 1,099 career goals

(Prague) Jaromir Jagr celebrated his 51e birthday a week early, Sunday, after registering his 1099e career goal in professional hockey to surpass Wayne Gretzky.


Jagr, who will celebrate his 51e anniversary on February 15, hit the target in the Kladno Knights’ 5-4 loss to Trinec in the Czech Republic Elite League.

The forward, who was second in NHL scoring in 2018 when he was released by the Calgary Flames, scored his 1,099e career goal in the professional ranks and international tournaments.

Jagr recovered the puck behind the net before rounding it and giving his team a 4-3 lead after 4:32 in the third period. It was his second point of the game. He also had an assist on the net of former Montreal Canadiens player Tomas Plekanec, who then tied the game 1-1 in the first period.
