Jaromír Jagr sets new record with 1099 career goals

Jaromir Jagr celebrated his 51st birthday a week early on Sunday after scoring his 1,099th career professional hockey goal to surpass Wayne Gretzky.

Jagr, who will celebrate his 51st birthday on February 15, hit the target in the Kladno Knights’ 5-4 loss to Trinec in the Czech Republic Elite League.

The forward, who was second in NHL scoring in 2018 when he was released by the Calgary Flames, scored his 1,099th career professional and international tournament goal.

Jagr recovered the puck behind the net before rounding it and giving his team a 4-3 lead after 4:32 into the third period. It was his second point of the game. He also had an assist on the net of former Montreal Canadiens player Tomas Plekanec, who then tied the game 1-1 in the first period.

With three goals and eight assists, Jagr has 11 points so far in 19 games this season with Kladno.

Jagr had concluded his career in North America with 844 total goals in the regular season and playoffs. He also netted 93 in the Russia/Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), 107 in the Czech Republic/Czech Republic Elite League and 55 in international competitions — at the Olympics, World Cups, World Championships and various tournaments.
