(Detroit) Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs ran for a season-high 152 yards and a touchdown, Jared Goff passed for 272 yards and a touchdown, and the Detroit Lions defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14 on Monday .
The Lions (6-2), leaders of the Northern section of the National, were unable to reach the end zone during three offensive sequences at the start of the match, each time scoring the field goal. Goff then found rookie Sam LaPorta in the end zone for 18 yards to give his team a 16-7 lead in the first half.
Goff was the victim of an interception that Marcus Peters returned 75 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter, allowing the Raiders (3-5) to pull within two points. The Lions’ next drive ended when Craig Reynolds fumbled the ball at the Raiders’ three-yard line.
The Lions held the ball and scored a major on their third possession of the second half, extending their advantage to more than a touchdown by virtue of Gibbs’ 27-yard rushing major. Riley Patterson made a 52-yard field goal to give the local favorites a 12-point lead.
This lead was enough against the anemic Raiders attack.
The Raiders benefited from the return of Jimmy Garoppolo who, however, suffered a ninth interception, a record in the NFL. Kerby Joseph succeeded in the larceny.
The Raiders allowed six sacks against their quarterback.
Garoppolo, who missed six quarters with a back injury, completed 10 of 21 passes for 126 yards.
Goff connected with his receivers 26 times on 37 attempts, finding Amon-Ra St. Brown six times for 108 yards.
