In Japan, we practice Daisugi, a practice which consists in growing trees on the same stump, and which could be a solution to deforestation.

The mountains of Kitayama in Japan, are covered with these forests of cedars Japanese. They are particular cedars, with multiple branches, soaring higher towards the sky. They grow vertically, an ancient technique dating back eight centuries. It is an almost magical method against deforestation. “It’s the Daisugi, when you look at it, you have the impression that there are several trees. In fact there is only one “, describe Yoshiya Matsumoto, director of the Timber Federation.

This woodcutter with an ecological fiber, with cuttings, manages to make trees grow on top of other trees. This technique is called Daisugi, literally “cedar table”. These long stems of the conifer are of best quality, and twice as robust. With the Daisugi on a single tree, wood can be collected for three hundred years.
