Ministerial exams scheduled for January at primary and secondary levels have been postponed due to the strike, the Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, announced on Tuesday.
“We will announce the postponement dates later,” said the minister’s press secretary, Florence Plourde.
The Drainville firm also said “look [er] more options” regarding the school calendar. From the start of the labor dispute, the minister had not ruled out the possibility of resuming walkout days later in the school year.
The minister has still not made a decision regarding the weighting of the exams. “We are not there yet,” wrote his press secretary. In certain cases, ministerial tests are worth 20% of the final grade. In 4e and 5e secondary, they correspond to 50% of a student’s final result.
At the primary level, the French ministerial exams were scheduled for January 10, 11, 12 and 15. The mathematics tests were to take place on January 17, 18 and 19. At the secondary level, ministry exams were scheduled between November 30 and January 22.
At the college level, “Minister Pascale Déry and her teams are in contact with the network,” said the Drainville cabinet. “If necessary, adjustments are possible to ensure that the admissions of future college students are not delayed,” added Ms. Plourde.
