Danny Jansen hit a two-run single in the ninth and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a sweep of the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, this time winning 6-5.
Leading off in the bottom of the ninth, Vladimir Guerrero hit the fence to right field, but he had to settle for a single.
Daulton Varsho was retired on a flyout, then Matt Chapman walked.
Whit Merrifield was out on a fly ball, after which Brandon Belt loaded the bases with an infield single.
Jansen followed that up with a single to left field against Raisel Iglesias (1-1).
“Our team is tenacious,” said Jansen. We want to win every game and with the squad in place we believe that is possible. »
Merrifield stole a 12e goal for the Blue Jays, who have won six of their last eight games.
Except for a one-run single from Michael Harris, the Braves’ runs came from home runs by Ozzie Albies, Ronald Acuna and Kevin Pillar.
“We had a chance to close the books and we didn’t,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. It’s frustrating, but it’s part of what can happen in baseball. »
Acuna’s homer was hit on Yusei Kikuchi’s third shot of the game.
Guerrero has scored in 19 straight games.
George Springer had a four-goal hit on the winning side.
Atlanta made three errors, one more than Toronto.
Nate Pearson (1-0) pitched in the ninth inning.
Kikuchi worked four innings, allowing five runs and nine hits.
Collin McHugh gave up three runs and six hits in one and two-thirds inning.
The match was played in front of 40,895 people at the Rogers Centre.
Alek Manoah (1-3) will be the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays Monday night in Toronto against the New York Yankees. The latter have not yet announced who will be his vis-à-vis.
