Janette, our most beautiful earthquake

I find it beautiful, this shower of tributes and wishes that have been flooding social networks since yesterday for our national Janette! And even though we know that she probably won’t see most of them, this massive sending of beautiful thoughts to her gives a sacred character to the very first days of her hundredth year of life on this planet. Janette is obviously one of the rare (and last) witnesses of her original era, and yet one of the most influential women of our time. When Janette speaks, we know it won’t be trivial and we listen. Janette inspires, Janette radiates, Janette illuminates. Interstellar Janette! This woman who walks with dignity and without denial towards her own purpose shakes our certainties, forces us to change our outlook and move from words to actions. It has almost become a cliché to say it: the one whose last name has practically jumped over the course of our collective affection continues to contribute to changing our society.

At a time when we would have every reason in the world to despair, we had to see her jumping around like a child on the set of the show Live from the universe, last Saturday, when the French singer Christophe Maé came to point out his famous “Where is happiness, where is it…” towards her. We no longer had to search. Happiness was there, in the flesh, with us, among us. And even if we wish we had a thousand more opportunities to tell him, I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of us who want to say thank you. Happy birthday again and thank you, great Janette Bertrand!
