Not all jams are created equal. Some major brands add sugar, flavorings or preservatives. So how to choose well? The 13 Hours investigated.

It accompanies your breakfast on a slice of bread or brioche, jam with thousands of flavors and multitudes of brands. But how to choose it ? How is it made? In Corrèze, one of the giants of the sector has opened its doors to the 13 Hours teams. Here, 100,000 jars are produced every day with frozen fruit. The price difference is made from the selection of the fruit.

A variable composition according to the ranges

Fruit is the first expense in making jam. So, the company plays on several levers to lower the bill, in particular on the origin. For distributor brands, fruits are cheap from North Africa or Europe. On the other hand, for the more expensive jams, the fruits are French. The composition also varies: the more fruit the jam contains, the higher its price.
