Harden would make $33 million next season and he would have the option to stay with the team the following season to take advantage of the remaining $35.6 million, according to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski.

However, the 32-year-old American could also return to the free agent market at the end of the next campaign and not use his option year, with the aim of signing a new contract elsewhere in the NBA.

Harden had been traded to the 76ers last February from the Brooklyn Nets, notably in return for Ben Simmons. He played 21 games with Philadelphia last season, averaging 21 points per game.

He will begin his 14e season in the NBA.
