(Los Angeles) Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk is expected to miss a month of action due to hand and lower-body injuries sustained during the Winter Classic on Monday.
DeBrusk, who is second on the Bruins with 16 goals, was placed on the injured reserve Thursday. He did not travel with the team for its three-game trip to California, which begins Thursday in Los Angeles.
DeBrusk scored twice in the third period in the Bruins’ 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Fenway Park. Both goals apparently came after the lower body injury suffered when he was hit by teammate Matt Grzelcyk’s slapshot.
The 26-year-old DeBrusk had 30 points in 36 games and earned a spot on the first line with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron.
The Bruins have 62 points in 37 games, including an NHL-high 24 wins and a plus-57 goal differential.
David Pastrnak should take DeBrusk’s place on the first line. The Czech leads the Bruins with 25 goals and is tied for sixth in the NHL.
