The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announces that Jacynthe Côté will become chair of its board of directors next year.
The institution said Côté would assume the role upon her re-election as an independent director at Royal Bank’s annual meeting on April 5, 2023.
Kathleen Taylor, who has served as chair since 2014, will be retiring.
Jacynthe Côté, who has a degree in chemistry from Laval University, has been an independent director of RBC since 2014. She has served on various committees and has chaired the governance committee since 2018.
She is the first woman to chair the board of directors of Hydro-Québec. The Crown corporation announced Friday that Ms. Côté had recently informed the Quebec government that she would not be seeking a second term after the one ending in May.
Jacynthe Côté is a former president and CEO of Rio Tinto Alcan. She is also a member of the board of directors of Finning International and Transcontinental.
