Jacques Villeneuve qualified for the Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH | Against all odds, Jacques Villeneuve ensured his qualification for the famous Daytona 500 Mile classic on Wednesday evening during the qualifying session.

“It’s a surprise”, he exclaimed Jacques Villeneuve when he saw that he had achieved the second fastest time among the six competitors who were not guaranteed to take part in the most important test of stock car on the planet.

“The car behaved much better than the day before,” said the man who becomes only the second Quebecer in history to participate in the Daytona 500. Montrealer Dick Foley preceded him 62 years ago.

“It’s mission accomplished for a small team like ours that is making its debut in the NASCAR Cup,” he added.

Villeneuve will take part this evening in one of the two “duels” which will be used to form the starting grid. But, regardless, his place among the 40 starters is now confirmed and no one will be able to rob him.
