Jacques Lussier, who made himself known to the Quebec public in the 1980s and 1990s by starring in a dozen popular soap operas and series, died last week, we learned The Press. The actor was 64 years old.
His most notable role was that of Inspector Henri Douville in Caleb’s daughters then in Whiteat the beginning of the 1990s. On the small screen, Jacques Lussier also played in Cormorant, The machos, Under the sign of the lionas well as Ministeralongside Michel Dumont.

In the cinema, he will be remembered in intimate power, film by Yves Simoneau, with Robert Gravel and Pierre Curzi. The multilingual actor also acted in English, among others in the drama Gray Owl, signed by British director Sir Richard Attenborough, and starring Pierce Brosnan.

A graduate of the Montreal Conservatory of Dramatic Art, Jacques Lussier worked in the theater, mainly in the 1980s-1990s. It was directed by Robert Lepage at TNM (THE dream of a summer night) and by Denise Filiatrault (Mr. Schultz’s fins). Previously, upon leaving the Conservatoire in 1982, he was noticed in the creation of Normand Chaurette’s piece Provincetown Playhouse, July 1919, I was 19at Café Nelligan.
The actor sometimes spoke in the media on social issues, such as the housing crisis, or political and cultural issues. “I had good years, but it’s a job that can be distressing when you don’t bring in a penny for weeks, months,” he confided in 2008 to the newspaper The Voice of the Eastin an article on the precariousness of artists and the cultural cuts made by the Harper government.
Unfortunately, after a successful start to his career, the actor had some downturns at the end of his career, with health and financial problems. His last appearance on television was in the series Reasonable doubtlast year, in the role of Mathieu Delisle.
His agent, from the Chantal David artistic agency, had not represented him for several months. She was therefore unable to provide us with further information.
