Jacques Legros balances on his “tense relations” with Jean-Pierre Pernaut

“Having been his joker for 24 years without a single editorial clash is a source of pride. But I know that he was itching to comment on my newspaper. He never spoke to me directly. The editors-in-chief have always known how to spare susceptibilities. Except once…” These words are signed by the hand of Jacques Legros for his book Behind the screen 40 years at the heart of the media. A work which will appear on October 4 with the editions of Rock and which should shed light on many secrets of the joker of the 1 p.m. TF1. Starting with his strained relations with Jean-Pierre Pernaut.

He had already mentioned the complexity of their agreement within the first channel in the columns of Provence on August 3. But in the many extracts that our colleagues from Tele-Leisure were able to obtain, Jacques Legros also lifts the veil on a day when he sent everything to waltz, because of a disagreement with the one who lost his life on March 2 last.

Colleagues, but not friends

In 2020, while the country is confined, Jacques Legros presents the JT of TF1 in place of Jean-Pierre Pernaut “asked by the occupational doctor to stay at home”.”We had therefore installed an automatic mini-studio in his home. But he wanted to keep the leading role and asked the team more than necessary.first writes his joker before continuing: For my part, I never knew what he was going to talk about. He was reluctant to share. He wanted more and more to take control of the whole newspaper. I was starting to boil inside, until one day I burst out, gathered my stuff, and headed back to the parking lot and my car. Since he wanted to do the newspaper for me, let him come and do it!

Directly questioned by Tele-Leisure, Jacques Legros provided some details on this anecdote and his relationship with the ex-companion of Nathalie Marquay. “We weren’t friends, but neither were we enemies. I would just say that our relationship was more distant and less smooth than one might have imagined. His presence was rarely heavy”he assures before deploring: “Except at the end, at the time of confinement. Our relations then became strained”.
