France 2’s “20 Hours” has unveiled the next two captains of the French Olympic and Paralympic delegations for Paris 2024.

379 days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the “8 p.m.” revealed the two heads of the French delegations, Wednesday July 12. Former handball player Jackson Richardson, 54, world champion in 1995 and 2001, voted best player in the world in 1995 and bronze medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will be the Olympic delegation. In particular, he was the flag bearer for the French delegation at the Athens Games in 2004. For the Paralympic Games, the captain will be Michaël Jéremiasz, Olympic champion in doubles Para tennis in Beijing in 2008. He was on the podium four times ( silver in doubles and bronze in singles in 2004, gold in Beijing in doubles in 2008, and bronze in London in doubles in 2012), and flag bearer in Rio in 2016.

Experience comes first

“We were standard bearers, we won the Olympic Games… Our goal is to bring our experience to these athletes and also support the standard bearer”explained Jackson Richardson on France 2. For Michaël Jéremiasz, “the National Olympic and Paralympic Committee realized, one year before the Games [qu’à] home is not exactly the same”, in terms of pressure and organisation. According to him, it is for their Olympic experience that they were chosen when they are presidents of federations who are usually appointed.
