Ivy is not a parasitic plant.

Emmanuelle PERRIN, nature animator in the Ramières du Val de Drôme national nature reserve, introduces us to this organism with multiple transformations.

Seeing it with its evergreen leaves surrounding the trees may suggest that it is suffocating them.

The little seed dropped by a bird will germinate and a seedling will come out. Unable to stand upright, it will crawl in the shade of the undergrowth sometimes for several years before finding support.

When it encounters a support, it transforms to carry out its ascent towards the light, then the leaves change shape, the plant gains in width and the now fertile branches will produce flowers and then fruit.
