At the bottom of the bucket two weeks ago after its humiliation against Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast qualified for the final of the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday February 7. The Elephants eliminated the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-0) thanks to a goal from Sébastien Haller. They will face Nigeria on Sunday (9 p.m.) in front of their home crowd at the Alassane-Ouattara stadium in Ebimpé, near Abidjan. Emerse Faé’s men will try to win their third trophy after 1992 and 2015.
After miraculous qualifications in the previous rounds, the Ivorians were less afraid this time. Dominant but lacking in efficiency, they were delivered by Haller, author of his first goal of the CAN on an astonishing volley, which rebounded before lobbing the Congolese goalkeeper (65th). Franck Kessié hit the post just before the break (42nd), in a match where the Elephants only recorded two shots on target.
