The La France insoumise MP from Seine-Saint-Denis also denounces the lack of ambition for the organic sector, the day after the government’s announcements for agriculture.

It’s from “total ecological madness”deplores Friday February 2 on franceinfo, Clémentine Autain, La France insoumise MP for Seine-Saint-Denis, about the measures announced by the government to defuse the agricultural crisis.

Among them, the implementation “break” of the Ecophyto plan, aimed at reducing the use of pesticides. It crystallizes the anger of field crop producers. The majority unions FNSEA and Young Farmers demanded a moratorium. The government “responds to the logic of the FNSEA but not to the interest of the majority of farmers and not to the interest of the French for their health”, regrets Clémentine Autain. The elected official wishes to emphasize that farmers are the “first victims of pesticides”.

A lack of ambition for the organic sector

However, the rebellious MP concedes that “certain measures” announced by Gabriel Attal will “in the right direction”, in particular the establishment of a safeguard clause to prevent the importation into France of fruits and vegetables treated with the pesticide thiacloprid, a product banned in Europe. The Prime Minister explained that he was taking this measure to avoid “unfair competition”. Clémentine Autain welcomes this initiative even if “it is limited since it is only a pesticide”.

The LFI MP believes that the government lacks ambition to support the organic sector. The Prime Minister announced emergency aid of 50 million euros. “Do you think we’re going to save her like that?”she retorts. “However, the responsibility of public authorities is to invest in organic, in the relocation of the economy and therefore of our agriculture.”

Clémentine Autain calls for a review of our agricultural model. She criticizes the European Union, through the common agricultural policy (CAP) and the “successive governments” of “destroy all the protections of our agriculture to promote productivism and the accumulation of profits”. Harmful policies “for our health because we eat poorly” and which prevent “peasants from living from their work”, she adds. The elected official reiterates her request to put in place price floors to guarantee a remunerative price for farmers. A measure considered demagogic by the Minister of Agriculture since France can only act on French products.
