Valérie Masson-Delmotte, IPCC climatologist, is invited to a seminar devoted to ecology before ministers, Wednesday 31 August.

While a government seminar devoted to ecology is to take place on Wednesday August 31, Laurence Tubiana, director of the European Climate Foundation, challenges the ministers on franceinfo: “Now is the time, there is a political base in French public opinion to go there”. According to her, “the good news is that – and not just because of the climatic disasters of spring and summer – the French are ready for change”. And to add that the French “the vast majority believe that we must accelerate change to fight against climate change”.

>> Environment, purchasing power, pensions: in what state of mind does Emmanuel Macron approach the start of the school year?

Laurence Tubiana bases her statement on a survey commissioned by her European Climate Foundation. “We see that 62% of French people think that the government is too slow to invest in renewable energies and seven out of ten French people declare themselves in favor of accelerating the transition, in particular in the electorate of Emmanuel Macron”she says.

This is why she sees with a very good eye the intervention planned against the government during this seminar by Valérie Masson-Delmotte, climatologist at the IPCC. “In These Thirty Minutes” training, “Valérie Masson-Delmotte (…) can convince them that they should not be afraid”.

Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Borne bring together the entire government on Wednesday August 31 to set the strategy for the coming months, with the difficult challenge of reconciling climate emergency, energy sobriety and defense of purchasing power.
