Corsican independence activist Yvan Colonna died on Monday March 21 after three weeks in a coma. Live from Ajaccio (Corse-du-Sud), we find Alexandra Lay. Several rallies are still taking place on Tuesday, March 22. The government calls for calm. In what state of mind are the demonstrators?
“Behind me, there are only a few people left in front of the Ajaccio prefecture. They were up to a hundred high school students, the vast majority of students a few hours ago. All are dressed in black as a sign of mourning, they also sing, they say, in homage to Yvan Colonna, and they even hung a banner ‘Yvan martyr of the Corsican cause’, on the gates of this prefecture”reports Alexandra Lay, live from Ajaccio (Corse-du-Sud).
Schools on the island are all closed, blocked very early, Tuesday morning, “by the students themselves, and at 6 p.m., vigils are organized all over the island, in front of the churches, once again to reflect”, says the journalist. The aggression of Yvan Colonna on March 2 had provoked a wave of anger and demonstrations. “The time now seems to meditation, says Alexandra Layeven if the authorities here remain extremely vigilant”she concludes.
