Acts of support for Gaza are increasing in French universities the day after the October 7 anniversary. Guest of “11 a.m./1 p.m.” this Tuesday, October 8, Iannis Roder, director of the education observatory at the Jean Jaurès Foundation, is concerned about a form of radicalism in the midst of the rise of anti-Semitism in France.
The day after the October 7 commemorations, students demonstrated their support for Gaza, echoing Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s call to display the Palestinian flag in establishments from October 8. “It’s throwing fuel on the fire”estimates the director of the education observatory at the Jean Jaurès Foundation, Iannis Roder. The author of Preserve secularism is the guest on “11 a.m./1 p.m.” this Tuesday, October 8.
Iannis Roder deplores the comments of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who according to him “does everything so that incidents break out”. “By repeating that there would be a genocide in Gaza, […] when you have French Jewish students who are in solidarity with the State of Israel, that makes them accomplices of a genocidal state”he points out again. “This perhaps sometimes legitimizes taking action”he adds about the rise in anti-Semitic acts in the country. However, Iannis Roder said to himself “solidarity” Palestinian civilians, whose deaths he judges “inadmissible” in this context of “war”.
