Quebecor is drawing a line under its Qub musique online listening service. It is one of the divisions that will suffer from the restructuring plan announced Thursday by the company, which will cut 240 jobs in all.
Launched with great fanfare in May 2020, Qub musique was destined to be a Quebec option to the online listening giants Spotify and Apple Music. But the service never met with the hoped-for success, even if it gave access to a competitive catalog compared to other platforms.
According to our information, Quebecor will end the activities of its music platform shortly. Qub radio, digital radio, would however survive this vast restructuring plan.
The cuts also affect other parts of the NumeriQ entity, in particular the 24 hours. Originally a paper newspaper distributed free of charge on weekdays in the metro, the 24 hours had transformed considerably during the pandemic to become a primarily digital medium aimed at a younger audience. The duty learned that several employees will lose their jobs. The paper edition of 24 hours, published on a weekly basis today, is set to disappear. The ax also falls on the documentary department.
Quebecor announced early Thursday evening the elimination of 240 positions in the company. Among the positions affected, 140 are within the TVA Group, which includes the TVA network, specialty channels, MELS studios and magazines. The details of the layoffs should be clarified in the coming days. Approximately 11% of TVA Group positions will disappear at the end of this vast restructuring plan.
The hundred other jobs cut are mainly within the NumeriQ subsidiary (Qub musique, 24h, Sac de chips, etc.)
