“It’s the DNA of the village”, for the mayor of St-Pierre-de-Vassols

Initiatives are multiplying in Vaucluse to help Ukrainians. Dozens of collections are organized in the department, calls for the reception of refugees have also been launched. In Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols, the mayor decided to get involved as soon as the announcement of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army. Sandrine Raymond, guest of France Bleu Vaucluse this Wednesday, launched a collection of food and clothing, then she will drive the van herself to transport these donations to Nice.

“It’s a bit in the DNA of the villageshe assures. When there were major floods in the Roya Valley, we did the same thing: we went to deliver the donations ourselves, as we knew where it was going to be given.”. This time, she looked for humanitarian aid associations for Ukraine. The collection she launched will therefore be sent on Tuesday March 8 to Nice, from where the donations will leave thanks to the Franco-Ukrainian association of the Côte d’Azur. The supermarket of this town of 500 inhabitants will lend her a van, which she will drive herself with two assistants.

“If we could, we would do more”
– Sandrine Raymond

“For us, it was really important, this outpouring of solidarity, continues Sandrine Raymond. Living well together is one of our principles, so for us it’s completely normal, it’s consistent. If we could do more, we would do more”. She wanted to mobilize from the first hours of the conflict. “We all feel powerless in the face of this war in the 21st century. We are in our little village, on the ground, and when we see these children, parked in the metro with fear in our stomachs, we oscillate between anger and sadness.”

If you wish to participate in the Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols collection, the town hall collects donations every day until Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., then between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., then Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Deposits are made at the Hélène Laugier room. A shopping cart is also available at the U supermarket to collect donations.
