A respite for the unemployed people at the end of their rights. The abolition of the specific solidarity allowance (ASS), which is paid to them, is not “more immediate news”announced the Minister of Labor, Catherine Vautrin, Monday June 3, during a meeting with associations fighting against precariousness. “They are focusing their efforts on reforming unemployment insurance”declared during this meeting Noam Leandri, president of Collectif Alerte which brings together 34 associations fighting against poverty. “We are delighted that this deletion is no longer on the agenda”he added during a press conference in Paris, believing that this would “in the right direction”.
Contacted by AFP, the Ministry of Labor confirmed the words of Catherine Vautrin: the minister “indicated that at a time when the government is reforming unemployment insurance, this is not an immediate topical issue”.
The abolition of the ASS was announced in January by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal who highlighted his desire to “fight inactivity traps”. Managed by France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) and financed by the State, ASS is an allowance created in 1984 intended for job seekers who have exhausted their unemployment insurance rights. It is awarded subject to conditions of resources and past activity. At the end of 2021, ASS was received by 321,900 beneficiaries, according to a document published in September 2023 by the statistical service of social ministries (Drees).
