It was in 2010 during the filming of the clip WakaWaka for the World Cup in South Africa that the way to Shakira crossed that of Gérard Piqué. A few months later, the two stars got together. Three years later their first child Milan was born followed by Sasha in 2015. That said, the couple never married. A voluntary choice of the singer.
“As a matter of fact, marriage scares me. I don’t want Gerard to see me as his wife, I prefer that he sees me as his girlfriend, his lover. It’s forbidden fruit, I want to keep our couple on their toes, I want them to think that anything is possible based on their behavior.” she explained in an interview with the American press.
That said, their relationship seemed to be going wonderfully since the star did not hesitate to compliment the sportsman on his qualities as a dad in the columns of Hello. “It’s like being married to a soldier, except he won’t risk dying in battle. Gerard is based in Barcelona and can’t travel – they have a few days off a month, but otherwise he has to be there for the team almost every day, training and playing games (…) Since birth children, it reveals a soft side. He is the one who changes the nappies and he is there, for them as for me” explained Shakira.
Unfortunately, everything changed at the end of the week when rumors of infidelity circulated about Gérard Piqué. In effect, he allegedly cheated on Shakira with Gavi’s mother. From there, he would live alone in an apartment in Barcelona.
Although some still believed in a chance to see them patch up, Shakira and Gérard Piqué confirmed their breakup in an official press release sent to the Spanish press agency EFE where we read: “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, which is our top priority, we ask for privacy. Thank you for your understanding”. It is therefore a new page that turns for the two stars …
