Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the French Communist Party, calls on franceinfo Thursday for the creation of a public establishment in which the State would be the main shareholder, to “restore a public service”.

“They say nationalization” of EDF, but “it is rather a recapitalization”estimated the national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, Thursday July 7 on franceinfo, the day after the general policy speech of the Prime Minister. “I confirm to you today the intention of the State to hold 100% of the capital of EDF”, indeed declared Elisabeth Borne in front of the deputies, of which the communist leader is a part.

He’s talking about “recapitalization” because “the State takes 100% of the shares in a public limited company which remains a private company”. “What we want is that we have a public company and therefore that we create a public establishment (Epic) in which the State is effectively the main shareholder, and that we put in place a public service”he added.

“This is how we can lower the VAT to 5.5% on electricity and gas bills, and therefore act immediately on the bills of our fellow citizens.”

“We want to have the debate in Parliament so that all of the national representation can say what we are putting in it”demanded the elected representative of the North. “We want an EPIC [Établissement public à caractère industriel et commercial]we want to lower VAT, we want to take electricity and energy out of the prices of the European system, we want to regain our sovereignty in terms of energy production”, he continued. “We want to invest in the nuclear and renewable sectors,” he also said.
