“It’s luck and certainly not marketing!”

Saturday April 15, France 3 will offer a new documentary titled Disco, the French revolution!

Several personalities have been invited to talk about this musical style born nearly half a century ago. Cerrone, Patrick Hernandez, Sheila, Jean-Michel Jarre, Amanda Lear, Dimitri from Paris, Chris Frankfurt (Gibson Brothers), Karen Cheryl (stage name of Isabelle Morizet), Orlando (brother of Dalida), Didier Marouani (Space) , Patrick Jean-Baptiste (Ottawan), Anthony Belolo (son of Henri Belolo producer of the Village People) spoke in this program directed by François Chaumont and narrated by Emilie Mazoyer.

This revelation 45 years later

Claude François Jr. went there with his testimony since a part was devoted to Claude François. If the history of disco is intimately linked to the French scene, the artist played a major role. In 1978, the star created a 100% disco album featuring hits Magnolias for Ever and the famous Alexandrie Alexandra. “My father becomes aware of disco in the summer of 1976 in a club in Sardinia, where it plays a lot in the disco evening, and he realizes that there is a new musical current that is being born”explained the son of the musician.

Etienne Roda-Gil will be the lyricist behind this opus. In his testimony, Claude François Jr. will explain that in his eyes, Magnolias for Ever is the most successful piece of his “father”. But the most iconic title will remain Alexandria Alexandra. “The date of Alexandria Alexandra’s single is scheduled weeks in advance, is set for March 14, and it’s luck, certainly not marketing, it happens to be the day of his funeral (he dies accidentally on March 11, 1978 at the age of 39, editor’s note). Alexandria Alexandra will mark that day, the beginning of her second career, which still lives today, 45 years after her death”.
