Jean-François Corty, vice-president of Médecins du monde, is the guest of 19/20 info, Tuesday April 2, after the death of humanitarian workers in Gaza in a strike attributed to Israel.

“There are practically no operational NGOs in the center and north of the Gaza Strip”explains Dr Jean-François Corty, vice-president of Médecins du monde. “Objective signs of famine are highlighted (…) the maritime, air and land blockade of the Israeli army is a tool that promotes famine”, he adds. The NGO World Central Kitchen, whose humanitarian workers were killed in Gaza, was involved in transporting food aid by sea and indicated that it was ceasing its activities for the moment.

Humanitarians believed they were safe

For him, it is “odious” for making humanitarians believe that they were safe, when that was not the case. Jean-François Corty calls for a ceasefire to “that experienced teams can return to distribute aid (…) there is such tension, such pressure, that it is dangerous to distribute aid both for the beneficiaries and for the caregivers”he concludes.
