This concert had been “approved by the bishopric, the parish committee and the parish priest”, assures Olivier Lepick. SATURDAY “around 10 p.m.”, the mayor learned “that a group of fundamentalist Catholics prevented the 200 spectators from entering the church”. Accompanied by a municipal policeman and a gendarme, the elected representative tried to “negotiate with the leader of this small group of enlightened people”. One of his assistants was “struck by one of these militants during this scandal”, he says. She was trying to enter the church and, “under the cries of “back Satan”, received a slap”.
“A victory they absolutely do not deserve”
Olivier Lepick denounces this “assault on an elected official” but “vstaking into account the acts of violence and the tension that was mounting”he was “forced to announce the cancellation of the concert” who the day before “was greatly appreciated by the community” in this “peaceful village”. The mayor took this decision also to also preserve “Saint-Cornély church, a jewel of the 16th century” so that there is not “degradation or violence”.
The aedile holds that “none Canarcois” was among “activists” present on Saturday evening. According to him, it was “young people who came from the department and neighboring departments” with profiles “quite characteristic, well-cleared necks, clothing that we obviously recognize as being from the extreme right Catholic fundamentalist”.
Olivier Lepick denounces facts “inadmissible” in a context of pressure on elected officials. “We see that on the far right and on the far left, more and more minorities want to impose beliefs or convictions on the majority”. The mayor of Carnac notes in his “chosen life”, a “rise in aggressiveness and violence, a very worrying phenomenon”.
